LEEP

Local Energy Efficiency Partnerships (LEEP) is an interactive approach that enables builders, renovators, technical experts and other professionals to rapidly build industry capacity for high-performance construction and renovation.

Designed as innovation exchange workshops, LEEP bridges the gap between codes, regulations and construction industry professionals by highlighting the development of reliable, robust and cost-effective solutions that encourages the implementation of code-ready homes across Canada. The results include energy savings for homeowners, competitive advantage for participating builders, renovators and manufacturers, and improvements in local building practices driven by builders and renovators.

CHBA’S Role in LEEP

Developed by Natural Resources Canada, CHBA has been supporting LEEP for , and encourages its’ expansion to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies. CHBA now works closely with its’ local and provincial Home Builders’ Association’s to provide a flexible delivery system that scales the initiative.  CHBA will conduct deep dives into engaging technologies carried out by NRCan’s LEEP workshops and forums and is uniquely positioned to disseminate the result across the Canadian home building and renovation industries.

Technology Forums

These forums and technical workshops address key industry challenges relevant to builders and renovators, bringing together experts, manufacturers, and technical specialists. Participants collaborate in real-time to explore and analyze emerging technologies, providing builders and renovators with direct access to manufacturers, opportunities to optimize construction processes, and the ability to trial new innovations. Manufacturers benefit by receiving product feedback, identifying avenues for innovation, and gaining valuable market insights through these forums, ultimately driving advancement within the industry.

Integrated Design Process (IDP) Workshops

These events foster interdisciplinary collaboration among builders, renovators, trades, industry experts, manufacturers, and other stakeholders from the outset of the design process. The Integrated Design Process (IDP) facilitates discussions on critical high-performance issues and establishes consensus on key concerns. IDP takes a holistic view of the construction process, encompassing costing, system design, energy engineering and simulations, material selection, and building or renovating constraints. It provides objective insights into performance aspects, enabling clear communication of performance targets, strategies for achieving them, and continuous improvement through feedback loops.
